Easter Eating Tips
Easter Eating Tips
If you are someone who is trying to eat healthy or trying to lose weight, holidays like Easter might be a bit scary. There are so many Easter candy treats and temptations that also have emotional ties for most of you. Reminiscing of all those Easters growing up with Easter baskets and eggs full of your favorite candies can be a comforting memory.
Here are some Easter Eating Tips to help you get through the day and help you stay on track…
Do not skip meals- Many people “save up” their calories for the big event which can actually backfire. You can end up being so hungry and eating more than you would have if you had eaten throughout the day.
Eat a light breakfast and/or lunch with a source of lean protein and some vegetables, Protein and fiber help you feel full while still being able to save your fat and carbs for treats
Drink plenty of water during the day which can also help you feel full
Try to be as active as possible or get a workout in that day.
Wear tighter clothing that will give you a gentle “heads up” when you are filling yourself.
Make a healthy dish make a healthy dish to ensure you have something you would like to eat. Check out this post on healthy low carb side dishes perfect for holiday meals.
Plan ahead! If you have 1 or 2 treats that you MUST have because they are your favorites, like in my instance Jelly Beans and Resse’s Peanut Butter Eggs, then plan ahead for this. Allow yourself a serving of your favorite treats. Give yourself grace with these items and make it a point to try to avoid all the other food items that are loaded with carbs and fats that you do not enjoy as much. You don’t have to deprive yourself of everything you enjoy, just make the unhealthy stuff worth it. For example, you look forward to those Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs and there are some Cadbury Eggs (which aren’t your favorite) then save your calories for what is worth it to you.
Avoid the larger candy that is harder to portion. Those solid chocolate bunnies are not divided in portion sizes. Who wants a Bunny cut in thirds ahead of time? How do you cut the bunny in thirds? Stick to the candies that can be portioned out more easily.
Hide the leftover candy! Chances are, you will have a stockpile of leftover Easter candy. Put it out of sight. Have your spouse hide the candy from you and the kids. Keep the candy on a low or high shelf behind other items so it is not staring you in the face all the time. Better yet, if you can, get rid of the leftovers. Take them to work or give them to a neighbor or donate them to the hospital workers or first responders in your area.

You might be surprised to hear that the clients in The Refine YOU Program are not restricted to any foods! They learn how to eat the right foods most of the time and treat themselves occasionally without the food guilt. If you are tracking your food, like my clients in The Refine YOU Program, I would consider putting your treats in your tracking app ahead of time and work the rest of the day around your treats. Just stick to your plan. If you eat well during the day, drink enough water, and follow tips I provided you will still be able to “have your cake and eat it too” without all the guilt. You may go over your “typical” day but it won’t be as bad as it would have been and this will allow you to enjoy yourself. That is real life my friends.
