Many of my clients struggle to stick to a fitness program for long periods. Most of the time they start out exercising daily and then they slowly begin to lose interest or they dread their workout. 1. Keep it Interesting

Some of the best advice I can give you for sticking to your fitness goals is to find a form of exercise that interests you. Finding ways to exercise that you enjoy helps you to stay motivated. So even if you are tired from a long day, you are still excited to workout. This could be workout classes, dancing, or nature walk. Anything that gets you up and moving is a great place to start.

  2. Start Slow

If you aren’t working out a majority of the week, scheduling six workouts a week is a tall order. Your body is going to be exhausted and it can be hard to keep this going for weeks. Start with a couple of days a week. Starting slow helps you build up your endurance and you might start looking forward to your workouts.

  3. Get a Workout Partner

Some people find that having someone who keeps them company during a workout keeps them motivated. They can hit the gym with you or go to the same workout classes with you. Your workout partner can also keep you accountable, so bring your best friend or your spouse with you next time your workout. If you are working out from home, set up a virtual workout with your friend!

  4. Write it Down

Schedule when you are going to work out and write it down. Add it to your planner or your google calendar when you are going to work out. This allows you to fit it into your schedule, but it can also help you to stick to the plan. If you have it written down you also get to check it off your to-do list which for some people is a satisfying feeling. You also can keep track of your workouts so you can track your progress.

  5. Make it a Habit

This is the most important advice that I can give to anyone. Working out should become a part of your routine. If you make a conscious effort to make it a habit eventually it will become unconscious like brushing your teeth or making your bed. This is the biggest step that you can take to change your lifestyle. Micro-habits are the most effective ways to change your lifestyle.

Sticking to a fitness plan is not easy. It means breaking bad habits or ideas regarding exercise. Exercise is not meant to be a painful and harsh experience. It is meant to be a stress reliever that improves your health and wellness. So, successfully making exercise a habit in your life will not be easy, but taking small steps every day is how you will succeed.
